WASPADA: Seminggu makan junk food bikin cepat pikun!
Merdeka.com – Kabar buruk bagi Anda yang suka makan junk food! Ternyata junk food tak hanya mempengaruhi berat badan, melainkan juga bisa merusak kemampuan otak untuk mengingat. Penelitian di Australia mengungkap bahwa mengonsumsi junk food selama seminggu saja sudah bisa menurunkan kemampuan otak yang berkaitan dengan ingatan.
Penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti dari University of News South Wales pada tikus menunjukkan bahwa tikus yang diberi makan junk food dan makanan tinggi lemak serta gula mengalami gangguan dalam hal ingatan setelah seminggu.
Uniknya, hasil ini sama dengan tikus yang diberi makan makanan sehat, namun diberi minuman yang mengandung banyak gula, berdasarkan penelitian yang diterbitkan dalam jurnal Brain, Behaviour and Immunity. Tikus yang diberi makan junk food diketahui kesulitan mengenali tempat tertentu. Mereka juga tak bereaksi ketika ada benda yang berpindah tempat.
Tikus yang diberi makan junk food tersebut mengalami peradangan pada bagian hipokampus otak yang berkaitan dengan ingatan. Peneliti mengaku sangat terkejut dengan kemampuan junk food merusak kemampuan otak dalam waktu yang singkat.
“Kami mengetahui bahwa obesitas menyebabkan peradangan pada tubuh. Namun kamu tak menyangka bahwa makanan junk food juga akan menyebabkan peradangan di otak. Yang membuat lebih terkejut adalah waktunya yang relatif singkat,” ungkap Profesor Margaret Morris dari UNSW, seperti dilansir oleh Daily Mail (17/12).
Penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan dan penurunan kemampuan otak tikus menurun bahkan sebelum tubuhnya terlihat menggemuk akibat makanan junk food. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa efek junk food pada otak lebih cepat dibandingkan pada tubuh atau berat badan.
Hasil penelitian ini tentunya bisa digunakan sebagai satu lagi alasan untuk menghindari junk food dan makanan yang tak sehat lainnya. Lindungi kesehatan tubuh dan otak Anda dengan mengurangi konsumsi junk food an beralihlah pada makanan yang lebih sehat.
